Support to Art School in Spitak

18 November 2017

Armenia’s devastating 1988 earthquake exacted a heavy toll – leaving tens of thousands dead and much of northwest Armenia in ruins. Found at the quake’s epicenter, the town of Spitak has struggled to regain its balance since that time.

In 2000, the Spitak Children’s Fund established a decorative art school, featuring classes teaching children traditional Armenian handicrafts and artisanry, including carpet-making, ceramics, needlework, embroidery and painting. The center also has provided job training for parents in the area. With support from the Foundation, the center helped bring the community together, improve the arts culture in this remote area, and gave people new skills to improve many aspects of their lives.
